This year film stars have returned to Whitehaven - namely the tall ships Phoenix, Kaskelot and Earl of Pembroke. Until July 28th they will be resident in Whitehaven harbour having arrived on June 20th.

They arrived in the afternoon and moored beyond Tom Hurd's Rock waiting for the high tide in the evening.

The first to enter Whitehaven Harbour was Earl of Pembroke seen here passing the North Pier lighthouse with dozens of onlookers along the pier. The second ship was the Kaskelot shown passing the south pier lighthouse.

The last ship was Phoenix the smallest seen with Redness point on the background.

After negotiating the tidal lock gates the ships passed the marina and the Crows Nest feature to take up their positions along the sugar tongue.

As Phoenix took its place along the quayside the ships looked splendid as crowds gathered to get a closer look.

Seen from sculpture marking the start of the C2C cycle route, as the sun set behind the rigging, the sailing ships made a perfect picture.

There will be admission to the
ships daily from 10am to 5pm.
