| The new lock gates opened in 1998 by John Prescott - with a control tower reflecting the design of the Beacon heritage centre which in turn was inspired by a lighthouse. Whilst allowing the access of reasonably large ships these enclose a large area of water within the inner harbour and also act as a flood barrier. | ||
