Jeanie Johnston the replica of the Irish emigrant ship returns to Whitehaven after her successful visit to the Maritime Festival. The three-masted barque from Tralee looks quite at home here which is hardly surprising as it is just the sort of trading ship that used to fill the harbour.

With the onboard museum it is also possible to catch a glimpse of the lives of the Irish famine refugees as they escaped to a new life in Canada and the United States. Each person had their own story to tell; from Ellen Mahony and children on their way to hopefully find their father across the Atlantic, to Doctor Blennerhassett who helped keep the Jeanie Johnston miraculously free from death.
