Whitehaven Maritime Festival is a biennial event on odd numbered years. It started in 1999 and was so amazingly successful that it was repeated in 2001, 2003 and 2005 - each time getting bigger and better.

Tall ships have always been included as part of the attraction with visitors including the Grand Turk, Zebu, Phoenix, Prince William and Jeanie Johnson

The air displays complement the water based activities and have recently featured the Red Arrows display team and Tornado displays by the RAF along with Battle of Britain memorial flights and wing-walking displays.

Full entertainment is provided with street performers, live shows and bands plus a fun-fair and aircraft simulators. The event includes night time entertainment that concludes with spectacular firework displays over the harbour.
