Michael Moon's BookshopMichael Moon's bookshop has been famous in Whitehaven since opening in its old premises in 1978 on Roper Street, the site of the former Theatre Royal. The new location on Lowther Street provides a more traditional shop front in a better location but somewhat hides the extent of the stock within.
Beyond the initial shop are many other rooms on two floors stacked to the roof with second hand books on every subject imaginable. It is the perfect place to find refuge in an occasional shower or even a deluge, but be careful - you may find yourself still there long after the sun has reappeared. A particular speciality are old books and prints about Whitehaven history and the locality, many of which Michael has re-published from very rare editions.
