Whitehaven Marina

Whitehaven Marina is the prime port for visiting the lake district as well as the historic attractions of Whitehaven. It is also superbly placed for crossing to the Isle of Man or Ireland and vessels sailing across the Solway to Scotland. Shorter pleasure trips can also be made to Maryport marina just along the coast.

Whitehaven Marina from Bulwark Quay

The addition of lock gates now provides permanent water of 6.7m in the inner harbour with entrance and exit capability for over 18hrs per day for most craft. The purpose built marina with pontoon moorings is being expanded to cope with the extra demand to accommodate 155 vessels. These are likely to be full for the Maritime Festival 2001 so book early. Facilities include 24hr security and car parking, toilets, washing and waste disposal facilities, a 45 tonne boat lift with a secure hardstanding compound plus slipways and weather forecasts from the Harbour master.

The marina lies between the Bulwark Quay which now has secure access and the Lime Tongue although there is further anchorage for small vessels between the Sugar Tongue and the West Strand. The Lime Tongue now has its lighting feature and the 40m high mast of the Crow's Nest.

The marina also plays host to the Three Peaks Race in June as racers berth their yachts, cycle to the Ennerdale valley then run to the top of Scafell pike.
