Sport and EntertainmentWhitehaven has a large purpose built indoor Sports Centre in the centre of town and a modern swimming pool near Hensingham plus a newly opened golf course at Harras Moor. Whitehaven also has a Rugby League ground home of the Whitehaven Warriors. Nearby sporting facilities include Tenpin Bowling at Workington which also has Speedway, Indoor Kart racing at Maryport plus a National Karting venue at Rowrah, and pony trekking at Ennerdale plus regular gymnkanas at local shows throughout the summer. Also for outdoor recreation are: C2C cycle route with local cyclepaths, the Coast to Coast walk, and close proximity to Scawfell, Great Gable and other famous climbs. There is a theatre at Rosehill which attracts some distinguished performers plus Whitehaven Civic hall has a varied programme of entertainment including some top bands and comedians. The Harbour gallery at the Beacon has a programme of exhibitions throughout the year as does Lowes Court at Egremont. Other theatres are nearby at Workington and Cockermouth plus the Theatre of the Lakes at Keswick less than hour's drive away.
