Blakeley
Raise circle (Kinniside or Cold Fell circle)
Cold fell circle is
probably early Bronze Age or Neolithic in origin ie. about 1600 3000 BC. It
consists of 11 stones although it is originally thought to have had 13. It was
reconstructed in 1925 after eight of the stones had been removed for a gateway.
In the centre is a small
circular mound and there are two indentations. Most of the stones are granite between 0.5m
and 1m high arranged in a perfect circle of diameter 16.6m with the central mound of
diameter 5m.
